Green Culture Anlaufstelle

Since September 2023, the Green Culture Anlaufstelle (Contact Point) has been supporting the cultural, creative, and media sectors across Germany on their path toward ecological transformation, helping them prepare for the challenges of the future. With the establishment of the Green Culture Anlaufstelle, we have implemented a key cultural policy objective set out in the federal government’s coalition agreement. The GCA serves as a competence center for actors and stakeholders in the cultural sector, providing knowledge, promoting networking, facilitating data collection, offering advice, and sharing resources for the ecological transformation of Germany’s cultural landscape.

The Green Culture Anlaufstelle consolidates information on operational ecology, climate accounting, and energy efficiency, documents pioneering initiatives, and connects and advises players in the cultural sector. In this way, it supports cultural institutions throughout Germany in achieving the goal of climate neutrality by 2045 at the latest. Close cooperation with other institutions and associations ensures a comprehensive range of environmental and climate protection measures within cultural institutions. The competence center is continuously being expanded and developed in a participatory process involving stakeholders from culture, politics, science, business, and civil society.

In addition, the Green Culture Anlaufstelle supports cultural institutions in using the nationwide, culture-specific carbon footprinting standards KBK & KBK+, as well as the free tool provided by the German Conference of Ministers of Culture. This work is accompanied by the development of immediate measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. With its annual Green Culture Festival, the Contact Point offers an overview of current sustainability developments in the cultural sector and provides a platform for exchange and networking.
