In times of energy crises and rising costs, energy has become an increasingly prominent issue—technically, politically, and socially. For the cultural sector, this represents a growing challenge: increasing energy budgets mean decreasing funds for cultural work. The Aktionsnetzwerk Nachhaltigkeit in Kultur und Medien (Action Network Sustainability in Culture and Media) aims to counteract this trend. As both an active response and a cost-control tool, the network offered cultural venues across Germany support through energy consultations as part of the Sprint20 pilot project.
The goal was to identify quick and effective ways to save energy in cultural institutions by engaging highly qualified energy consultants—without compromising the quality of cultural work. The Sprint20 project demonstrated that a 20 percent reduction in energy consumption is always achievable.
The Living Document 2023: Energy Consultation Recommendations for the Cultural Sector presents the project’s findings to the public. In addition to insights gained from the energy consultations, the document reflects on other project successes, such as the advanced training of energy consultants, and highlights the achievements of selected participating cultural institutions.
